I admit this is a bit of a lazy way but kids playing up tonight and havent got time to research this one myself.

Client wants an outside socket on garage wall to charge electric car, was going to take a spur off the ring in the garage through the wall into ip66 socket unit

However I know that the IET have issued guidance on car charging and dont want to run foul at all, the ring is on standard domestic wiring with RCD protection.

Can anyone see a problem with this, first time ive been asked to fit socket specifically for car charging.

Thanks in advance everyone

I'd go with a dedicated circuit capable of running 30A for a while

I haven't read the guidance book or gone on the course (stop taking my money) but herd it might have to be TT, type D and other stuff. Best read the manufactures instructions assuming they're having a proper charger installed

If the socket is outside, I'd also have a double pole isolator with neon installed somewhere as well

Thanks for that.

The charger is a portable unit that just plugs into a normal 13A plug. when not in use they wind it up and put into the boot in case need to charge away from home. Currently they plug in inside garage and run extension lead under garage door but have scuffed cable that way

was planning on isolator switch inside garage to stop anyone else plugging in when theyre away
