Hi all just joined the forum. I'm after so advice regarding conditioning reports if possible. I'm a part p electrician with Elecsa so all my work is domestic. I've been asked a few times to carry out electrical installation reports for landlords but under the Elecsa part p scheme I'm not covered to carry out that work. If I want to carry out this type of work in the future do I have to complete a training course, or is it just a case of informing my insurance company and studying up on the coding system.

thanks

chris

Welcome along.

The Part P scheme is not realted to Electrical installation condition reports it is solely to do with building regualtions notification.
However Elecsa and the other self certification bodies also tend to offer a service of electrical installation condition report registration, which does nto seem to have much meaning.

Undertaking EICRs requires a lot of skill and experience of a wide range installations to allow you to be able to make sensible and accurate observations on an existing installation.

There are courses covering periodic inspection and testing such as the C&G 2395 and the EAL 4338.
These are often specified along with initial verification courses of the 2394 and 4337 respectively.
Thee can be very useful at providing a demonstrable level of training to verify your competence.

Insurance wise it is often worthwhile taking out professional indemnity insurance to cover you against erroneous advice.

The electrical safety first website provides a guide to their take on condition reporting that could be a good introduction to the requirements (Best practice guide 4)

Hi OP, I'm in the same boat as you, just domestic work and registered with ELECSA. Every year on my assessment, my assessor asks why I don't do EICR. I returned to electrics after another career. I had quite a bit previous exeperince as an electrician, but when I did restart. I've kept to domestic work. I have an initial inspection & testing qualification. I like to think what is good job and what a bodge is. If I was you and wanted. to do EICR I would gain more experience go for more qualified CG course. Don't listen to Elecsa. You may be suitable to do it now, it is a responsibility doing EICR's. One stage at a time (typed from my iPhone).
