Hello All
As a manufacturer that attends the various Elex shows I am keen to know what would encourage you to attend the shows, there is already a strong attendence and of course the organisers make a number of incentives but is there anything else that would make it a "must attend" event
Thanks

Hello Mark

This depends on what product you are manufacturing,

I have been to a couple of ELEXs Shows and i have noticed that most of people that visit the shows are just workers coming to buy discount products (screwdrivers, drills...) and to get freebies. I had my own stand in Harrogate and during those 3 days i only spoke to couple of business man which were interested in my product. The rest were just normal electricians/builders.

Could you tell me what are you manufacturing ?

I manufacture electrical enclosures, meter boxes made out of GRP ( glass fiber reinforced polyester ).

3 things come to mind. 1. the venue needs to be north of the river severn. 2. a bar inside the venue. 3. a butty bar that don't rip us off £3.50 for a small bacon bap.

For me it would be not on a working day, or one day of the show which isn't. I've had a ticket to go last year and this (Ricoh Coventry) but then had to earn some instead of spending some. I'd also like more information on what's at the show before I go. That way I may have a greater incentive to take the time out which leads back to my first point. Like a lot of others I have my own company/am self employed, so if I have work available to do it would be a dear do going to a show and not doing the work.

I went to the last 2 at the Ricoh. This year was a but of a let down. A lot less suppliers and very few small companies with innovative products. Some of the companies I did talk to about products seemed more interested in distribution than selling to sole traders.
One thing I would love is for lighting design companies to have a couple of their designers available to understand just how impractical many of their fittings are to actually use in a normal situation. Have you ever tried to get 2x 1.5mm cables into a standard recessed downlight or behind a wall light?

tom3m.. Don't forget that it (depending on your product) is quite often "normal electricians/builders" that specify and install products.

Did any one ever been to electrical exhibition in Europe ?
I went to a exhibition in Poland ( energetap 2012, 30000m2 of booths with products and over 700 electrical companies ) and its completely different from the expedition i have been to in UK
( ELEXSHOW ) there is a lot more companies and it brings a big croud from around the world.

Even bigger event is in Hannover called HANNOVER MESSE i will be showing there on the 8 - 12 April.

i went to Sandown this year and it was more of a tool show with some electrical stuff on the side. If the organisers could get varied electrical stuff there I think it would help.

Mind you, if there were more people there I wouldn't bother going - it was already pretty crowded!

I agree, Sandown seemed a bit dominated by stands trying to flog power tools and big tool boxes, which were of no interest to me. More of the stuff I install (CUs, lighting, etc) or use (test gear, specialist tools, etc).

I've been to Coventry, Harrogate and Manchester Elex shows in the past 2 years and find they are all the same and not much is discounted. Maybe putting a special pack screwdrivers (for example) at a good discounted price for show goers would be nice, and not only for ten first ten customers.

The vast majority of vendors dont accept debit card payment and some of the items are quite expensive so paying by cash is and carrying a wad of notes around all day is not my idea of fun.

Food and drinks are too expensive.

As already said above, hold the show on a Friday and Saturday so people can go to it on their day off.

In this day and age of reduced customers/jobs etc, any chance of local/national work agencies or electrical firms setting up a stall or two and offering work or advice to find work. Lot of people out there have not got a full time on the books job and I think you would increase the foot flow into the shows.
