Went to price a re wire yesterday and the electrician has told the customer that he needs to chase them into the wall at a height of 450mm 1200mm to building regs. The installation is in an existing dwelling and are on the skirting boards which is to low to get a plug in. I have advised them to bring them up 150mm to meet regs? Not 450mm. 150 is minimum if my memory serves me well lol

I thought the heights were now 450mm (for accessibility). Not retrospective though. Daz

Was there not a reg that they have to be at least 150mm above work tops and stuff?

Customer can have them where they want on a rewire. Just make them more user friendly and jobs a good one.

I don't think so, but it's good practice if 150mm tiles are going on.

Building regs are 450 - 1200 mm for extensions and new builds only as stated above

Our regs say this in respect of socket heights:

553.1.6 a socket outlet on a wall or similar structure shall be mounted at a height above the floor or any working surface to minimize the risk of mechanical damage to the socket outlet or to an associated plug and it's flexible cable which might be caused during insertion, use, or withdrawal of the plug.

So use a bit of common in short.

on a full rewire i'd still put them at 450 if they needed to be lifted and didnt need to match the heights of existing outlets.
dont see any reason not to meet building regs compliance even if only a guideline.
