Does the regs state that the 3 pole isolating switch (required to protect the person carrying out maintenance on bathroom fan) must be accessible in the room that the fan is fitted? (Perhaps "In line of sight" is used?) That would make sense.
If the fan(s) is fitted in a roof space (in-line model) does it still require the 3 pole switch to be in the room or should it (must it) be in the roof space near the fan?
The question is posed because of a student let property where the landlord doesn't want the fans "turned OFF" just by pulling a cord accidentally or because someone doesn't like the noise :D

I will be interested to follow this thread. My bathroom fan has a humidistat and has no switches in the bathroom. It is mounted in the loft and fed via a 2 amp fused double pole switch.

I assume you mean that the fan circuit is fed, perhaps, from the bathroom lighting circuit - working independently from the room light, through the D.P. fused switch in loft space via the humidistat & onto the fan itself (also in the loft)?
This would give you D.P. (in line of sight) means of isolation for maintenance of the fan unit.
No need for an isolating switch in the room because the fan unit is NOT in the room? Is the humidistat a separate item then? Obviously this would be installed in the bathroom.

Of course "making sense" is not always a pre-requisite for compliance with any regulation.

Supplied by a fused spur of the plug circuit. The double pole switch providing the fuse.(2amp) The humidistat is built into the fan box which sits on the ceiling over the bathroom. The on off function is via the humidistat. No seperate switching other than DP switch.
