Afternoon Chaps,

Got to TT a place this week as no reliable earth and if PME is available DNO cant do anything for 6-8 weeks !

Have seen a post on this ages ago, but cant seem to find it ? (Did think I originally posted it?)

Just after any tips / advice on where / how best to place the rod.

This place isn't in the sticks so obviously concerned about hitting something, did think about getting a CAT but that only picks up electric cables.

Is it best if I can get it under the house itself, thinking there shouldn't be any drainage under there?

Got a 4 foot rod, does this have to go all the way in... do I need all of it ?

Sorry so many questions as you can probably tell haven't done many of these before.

Thanks,

Sy

Hi Nick could you elaborate a little please, new one on me... sounds interesting though ?

Thanks Sy

You won't like it!! lol!! Using an earth tape you would need to dig a trench over a metre down in this case and around 3 or 4 metres long. This system is used on shallow soil on rocky ground and will often run for 10s of metres. Also often requires conductive mortar and or chemical enhancement

Earth plates are used where rods can't go deep enough and is basically earth tape welded together in a mesh arrangement, of say 100cm by 60mm... Again You will need to place yours over a metre down so a a pretty big hole. and again will often require conductive mortar and/or chemical enhancement....

I think your much better off with using rods, you can go much deeper with relative ease compared with the other systems!!!

As much as I like the sound of that... might just stick to rods this time round

Thought you might!! lol!! My descriptions above are very basic, There is a lot more involved. Basically you just wouldn't use those methods in a normal domestic situation. Maybe the earth plate in difficult situations is a possibility!!
