sorry this may seem obvious. All of the shower manufacturers stipulate the main swith must be rated > 80Amps for connection of their showers in their instructions, so when you fit a seperate Shower C.U. due to the old board either being full or a wylex 3036 does this mean that the rating of the seperate shower C.U. RCD main switch has to be 80AMPs. as most shower C.U come with a 63A 30ma RCD mainswitch. im thinking this cant be right and this 80A mainswitch figure applies to a main C.U. anyone confirm my thinking.

to my mind the seperate shower cu is supplying one fixed load so as long as its rated above the rating of the shower it should and will be fine. just wanted to check if im missing something
 
i would tend to agree with you. most shower isolators are only 45A anyway.

You're right, that rating would be for an existing consumer unit supplying the shower, to allow for the combined loading of the existing circuits (cooker etc.)
