Its not building control, it was a scam inspector.....as Murdoch has pointed out, its always a good safety point to recommend detection on a rewire. But there is no given rule to do soHang fire, why have building control been notified of the rewire and coming out to check it? Am I missing something here... Presumably there's other building work going on?

It reads to me as though it's not even a scam inspector, just another sparks who is registered who has been paid to sign off the work if the OP who isn't registered. Completely not allowed under part P of course.
