Good to see the site back up again, it must be a nightmare for all concerned, Keep fighting the fight!!

We might go offline for a hour or so here and there when we get attacked again (and we will) while we configure the new systems for their type of attacks. But in a week or so we should be totally configured for whatever types of attacks they're throwing at us.

the forun is not necessarily the main target it could be dan, no idea why. google the silk road. there will be places somewhere like this where people offer ddos attacks as a paid service

Often it's just because they can, it's like vandalism. It could be that they're using this place as a (relatively) low profile practice run for something much bigger and (in their world) more spectacular.

a lot of people do it just because they can, I sometimes use scripts etc on my own pc's to see what happens but it would be illegal if I used it on someone elses

We're hosted on a network that can out-bandwidth them. And are using CloudFlare too. I'll configure email notifications via Amazon SES later. And have my own personal domain-related emails now going via Google Apps for Enterprise. Spread the load around. ha

Seems they've been attacking us for a bit now and you wouldn't even notice it forum-wise. They'll give up eventually I assume. If they're buying a botnet service they're throwing their money away now. And if they own a botnet service then they're wasting its resources now.

A few things need reconfiguring as we're on a different setup. So PM notifications and the likes, as I said above. Tapatalk needs reinstalling. And image uploading and avatars for newbies needs configuring again. Small things like that. But in the most part we're nearly done.

Not actually sure. I don't have too much to do with the forums these days. We ban people weekly though as a network, so whether we've just touched a nerve with somebody. We also have a weird troll that keeps using proxy networks to hide his IP etc and then b1tch to moderators of the tile forum and now even members get their homes linked to on Google Maps and he tells them they live in bins. Used a private investigator to trace him a couple of years ago and he stopped b1tching to me back then. But whether he's upped his game over the years, who knows.

When you run dozens of forums covering a few topics with millions of hits a month and thousands of people logging in every day, the law of average just says every now and again one of them is a weirdo.

If it isn't a member or somebody we've banned or something, then it could be competitors, but I doubt they'd be that sh1tty, most are quite professional other than the odd thread members mostly post in.

And failing that, it might be somebody we've refused advertising to or something weird like that.

They certainly wanted my business offline though whoever it was.
