First of all, I have minimal knowledge of anything electrical so please forgive my ignorance!

My problem is that I bought a portable heated handwash unit from eBay which is designed to go in a van. It's 12v 15a and 180w.

You can see the unit in question here: Handeman for motor vehicles | Mobile sinks and portable basins for hand washing

I need to use this with a mains supply and I just assumed I could buy a cheap adapter. After checking it seems that all the adapters on eBay/Amazon are only designed for low power usage.

So the question is how do I get this working? It will be running for about 10 hours per day over a one month period. I found this: 12v 15 Amp DC Power Adapter / Transformer - Ideal for LED Strips / Tape lights - Brightlightz on google but I don't know if it's what I need.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

A transformer and rectifier with a 15Amp output is going to be a tall order. You could try using a standard car battery with a decent sized car battery charger permanently connected.

Thanks for the advice but neither of them are really viable options. It looks like I'm gonna have to fork out £300 quid for the mains version! Not really what I wanted to do though!

a lot cheaper to buy the PSU that tazz posted the link to.

The mains version is probably more powerful too. 180W is a compromise that will only warm a cupful per minute, so as not to use ridiculous amounts of current at 12V. You can get inline 12V 180W PSUs too but I think this 12V idea is red herring when there's mains about.

Then why buy a 12v one. in the first place...??
