looking at setting up on my own, i was in talks with NIC at the back end of last year and i asked them then about the nvq 3 requirement and the assessor i spoke to had no idea about it. i have heard allot of people saying its coming in in april but cant find anything about it on their website. just wondered if anyone acctually knows when/if this is coming in as i don't have an NVQ 3 this could be a problem for me.

I think it comes in on april 6th this year so you may have to do a course which will cost big bucks.

yes in april there is supposed to be a new qualification for proposed new Qualifid supervisors up until then you need the 17th and to be competent as from april you will need one of these newer quals to join a scam

Yeah about time. Pity it aint retrospective as it would soon clear out these Electrical Trainee fly by nights who despite being scammer enlisted still get away with turning out **** work mainly because they either haven't had sufficient training or they just aint got a clue full stop.

I hope it works, NVQ/17th to gain Part P should be minimal, really 2392 (is it?) Should be minimal as well. Giving kitchen fitters who think they know best part P is just degrading for anyone that has done an apprenticeship

haha , you guys crack me up lol.

these upping of membership standards for nic you talk about will only cost £3495 for the new QS cert ;-)
and if you take the ultra fast trac route , course takes 1 day :-D
dont believe me ?

EAL 7695 Qualified Supervisor Course

the whole set up is a complete mess
£3495 for 6 week course or £400 + for 1-2 day course if yo can prove you knowledge and experience

this is another scam course which will relieve people of there hard earned cash complete joke

this will only be for new entrants and not retrospective like the different editions of the regs

dont know who comes up with all this tosh but they should be sacked

If this goes on the amount on time served sparks will be nill and we will be releying on Electrical Trainee (With no on site training)

MMMMMMMM (Worying)

I blame the horrible way in which the private centres operate.. Promising salaries of up to £60.. Who wouldnt spend 10% of there next years salary taking on these course..

Well if these people are stupid enough to firstly, believe they can become a fully qualified electrician in 6 weeks and secondly, earn £50,000 a year after the finish the course, then they deserve to be ripped off!!!

Well I enquired about the 6th april changes to the scams just a few weeks ago, Napit and Elecsa were still saying you would need a 17th edition qualification and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of the regs. Niceic never even bothered replying, but today I have read this which some of you may be interested in:

Electrotechnical Assessment Specification - EAS - IET Electrical

The press release says basically to be a New Qualified supervisor after 6 April you need a Level 3 qualification, a certificate in “Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings” for Domestic (City & Guilds 2397) and Level 3 NVQ “Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Building and Structures) for commercial and industrial.

The thing is, with Electrical Trainee you can be as angry as you want at people doing them but you can't blame them when they suddenly decide they want to be a spark or half a spark and wonder how to do it, the first thing they type in to google is along the lines of how to be an Electrician and they find 5 week courses and think 'wonderful no time at all'. Soon as they see that 5 weeks against the 3-4 year NVQ & other quals the only difference they know is the time frame. So I suppose scam is a very good work for these schemes but yeah

There is no enforcement so the qualifications are irrelevant. Most customers are unaware of notifiable works etc. The driver is always the price. On nearly every installation I've looked at there has been work, like new circuits in bathrooms without certs etc, that are non compliant. It would be useful if current requirements were enforced, just upping the required qualifications without enforcement is meaningless!
Cheers
