Hello everyone,

I am training to be an electrician on one of these fast-tack career change courses and enjoying it.

I need to buy myself a multifunction meter and would, obviously, expect to post in the Tools and Products forum (please tell me to head off there if more appropriate).

But .... I also need to consider the optimum Competent Person scheme to sign up for. I expect to do mainly small domestic work and the odd bit of inspection and testing. I loathe paperwork and, as far as is possible, want to automate certification and notification as much as I can.

So, I am looking for a multifunction meter and Competent Person scheme - if such a combination exists - that work together in this regard.

I know some meters come with their own software for ease of producing certificates etc. and test results can easily be populated onto certificates straight from the meter. But, is there anyway of notifying any particular CP scheme automatically, or with the minimum of keystrokes, without having to manually copy the data from one bit of software and paste it into another form? Is there any combination of scheme and multifunction meter software that works together so that 'at-a-press-of-a-button' data is moved from the meter software to the scheme's notification form?

Many thanks

Welcome. Case of shopping around with the schemes, looking at cost and qualifications that are required. Same with MFT’s, everyone seems to have their favourite. Also appears to be a good selection of software for certifictes.

If im not mistaken doesnt one of the new megger testers have a data storage facility where it links via bluetooth or similar to other devices?
either way get your self a table with some certification software or use an online one like electraform, the niceic one is £1 per certificate and you dont have to be registered either i think as they will produce green ones rather than red. can do certificates in the field then.

I got my Megger 1730 with their certification and blue tooth connection. Quite frankly, the software was crap, and the tech support only lasted 90 days, after which they wanted hideous amounts of money to continue. Unless it’s changed with the newer models, I wouldn’t waste your money.

I tried using the Megger software and it was a waste of time.
I find it quickest to write it down on paper and then fill in on computer at home

As an aside, my method of recording, was to note my readings in a hard back book (mislaid loose sheets before). When I got home (not necessary same day), filled in cert using Schemes online software.

It would be ideal to do it on site, however I think you could make mistakes. Sometimes old fashioned methods are better IMO.

Would that be the OnSite stuff loaded onto versions of the 17*1 series?
