I am trying to measure the voltage at two wires for a brake on a motor
The supply comes via an inverter and via a computer
This machine was bought with the motor missing and the motor supplier has asked if the supply to the brake is ac or dc
Have measured it with two different meters and they both read on the ac scale 130volts and 200volts on the dc scale
In the past the meters won't register if the wrong scale is selected
Any ideas please

oscilloscope.

Just buy a good meter. Use it on auto range and it will tell you if it’s AC or DC.

What make of motor / brake is it?
