Hi there

I’ve got some spots to install in some shelves being put up. This sounds very straight forward I know but I was only thinking, do they need to be fire rated in the sense the room above is habitable (but obviously this isn’t a ceiling space)?? I know in the ceiling they’d have to be but the shelves will be quite thin and getting an integrated unit in will be tricky. Rather go down the bezel/clip in the lamp holder route.

Am I thinking too much into this??

Cheers

Are you putting them in, I.e. penetrating an existing fire barrier?

Then you are over thinking it.
the idea of fire rated lights is that they don’t make an unprotected hole in the fireproof barrier of a building.

You may fins it useful to look up Approved Document B, more from a learning point of view to help you going forward, it should clear up what to use and when.
