Hi,

Ive been asked to chase in 13 existing sockets around a 3 bed house, and install an outdoor light..

I havent been yet so dont know if it has an rcd to protect the cables to be buried...

was thinking somewhere like £650-£850, maybe more if the board needs altering..

any thoughts?

A bit vague, to say the least, is that.
If you don't know, how can we ?
Work out your labour time and mats and............add 'em up.
Good luck

so, are you just chasing the sockets in or chasing the cables as well? too little info. as above ^^^^, estimate your hours @ £xx per hour, add materials, add for whatever testing you need to do to produce a cert. don't forget earthing and bonding to be checked and brought up to an acceptable standard if required.

yeah its in mini trunking, so cables, sockets the lot to go in the wall..

and i know its vague, i can see that too, but no more info...how long might it take to bury 13 sockets and all adjoining cables?? 2 bed semi....excluding kitchen

and to add an outside light (dont know where or if it switched or PIR)

just want to get a better idea as to how much to charge, without feeling like its too cheap or too expesnive...

any figures or values to help me work it out?

if you can use a wall chaser, that'll save time over the hammer and chisel. check what the walls are plastered with if it's cement render it'll take hours to do it by hand. go suss the job and don't quote on the spot. go home and work out how long you think it will take.

cheers tel,

will do that, was planning on sds and chisel bit to chase out,

people are living there and to use a wall chaser throughout the entire house may cause too much aggro...

Also was looking at box sinkers, but I hear these are only any good on breeze blocks, is that right?

and how much would you charge per hour, i was thinking somewhere around £25..that seem reasonable?

Thanks!

Sounds expensive TBH

£25? In London? Seems way under. Even an SDS is going to cause a lot of mess mate.

I helped a friend out last year with 17 new sockets. It took 3 days for 2 of us. The walls were rendered with some sort of concrete that they use on fallout shelters on top of brick. Another house saw a similar number done in a day, pink plaster on weetabix blocks.

maybe, but dont know how long it will take, but then Steve_p says it took 6 man days for 17sockets, and £25 is a bit cheap....

if you do the math there's quite a big variation....so I will wait to see exactly whats what...clearly a rough idea is, well way too rough!

if you have a kango and the walls have standard plaster on them, I would suggest you could chase all of them in easily in 2 days, admittedly there may be work required with the mains, you would have to talk to the client about that if a problem was discovered, it would be unforeseen and an extra if you gave a price for chasing in without looking at the dist board.
