Just reading the Schuco installation manual for trapezoidal roofing and it seems to show the brackets secured by self drilling screws, without penetrating/fixing into any underlying beams or supports.

Is that correct?

So as long as the metal sheets are secured to the underlying structure the array should be OK?

Appreciated any tips.

It's possibly a even stronger fixing system than the roof brackets. By fixing the rails at every 300 either by using on bracket to the top and then to the bottom and alternating through the length of the rail or by using the double bracket every 300mm. Self drilling screw sets A2 with the rubber backed washer the same as they use to fix the sheets to the Z beams.

One problem with trying to fix into the Z beams is that there will already be raised fixing bolts in the same line as the rail. So by using more fixing points this can be over come and fixed into the sheet only.

I will say you will not get a easier system to get the panels to line up.

Hi Mark C

I'm about to embark on a project on a trapezoidal roof. My concern is the loading on the roof. I'm considering using schuco for one job and SOL-50 for the other. Bost are similar in that the rail system screws directly into the trapezoidal roof panels as you descibe in your reply to yellowvanman.

For the SOL-50 system it stipulates the panel thickness must be a minimum of 0.7mm for the scuco system there seems to be no such limitation mentioned. I've been advised I should get a structural survey done to see if the roofs will be strong enough to take the panels due to wind uplift.

One alternative, I've been told, is to secure the rail system to the internal purlins.

I wonder from your experience if you believe the rail screwed directly to the trapezoidal panels is sufficiently strong enough of have you ever had to consult structural engineers for this type of roofing?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Guys,

We have the Renusol Metasole system which offers significant cost advantages in many cases. If you'd like the spec sheets and some prices just DM me.

Hi

The schuco system works well and the reason they do not specify roof sheet thickness is it's all down to the screw you use to fix it. There are numerous different self drill fixings on the market and it pays to choose a fixing correct to the sheet in question.

Our 16 panel array has over 300 fixing (how does this compare with a on roof for example). Following schuco's German installation details this seems to be the average fixing quantity.

As for structural report the same is said for any roof. Needs to be checked out.

Metal roofs in my opinion are harder to work off as well. No foot holds like battens etc to key into.
