Flakey

Hi there guys,
Ive been an electrician for a number of years working for a weekly wage but seem to be getting a number of private jobs coming in lately.
I just wanted a rough idea as to what you would charge for the following so as not to over charge and also not shoot myself in the foot.

1)Under kitchen cupboard LED lights power is already in 2 areas under the cupboard and are already wired to switch. So fairly easy
.

2)Adding 2 additional lights (baton holders) to existing circuit in attic. so basically come off existing light to make roof void more brighter.

3)Adding garden socket including running the cabling about 7 metres includes drilling through inside wall just behind existing socket then running the cable 7 metres to location, connect IP rated socket.

4)replacing existing outside lights with 2 motion sensor light fittings as well as putting in dummie dimmer switch module.

5)Tiding up supply cable to boiler.
Includes burying cable in walls changing switch to new fcu

6) investigating what is causing low voltage downlights to blow and slightly burn cables at termination.

Sorry if this may seem like a pestish request but would appreciate feedback

Many thanks guys

you been there to see it...
time you think it will take you to sort it out * your hourly (daily) rate + materials + bit extra for fuel and mainetnance cost.

Have you worked out how long you think it will take you ?

Have listed all parts required and had them priced ?

Very good questions people. To be honest its fairly easy stuff not too demanding i have been there to see what the job entails i could probably knock it out in a day (obviously anything can happen), Would i be best going for a day rate or for per job for example? Im giving the customer the option to source materials but have offered my assistance in that task. so really just looking for labour costs.
Thanks again!

Going by what you have said I would charge:-

1.5 x my daily rate + materials with 20% on top.

To put a ough price on them, I know it's a bit of how longs a bit of strong, but taking them literally and as basic as they sound, on the basis on no complications and the like, I'd probably say something like below.

Theres a lot of other ifs and buts Nd variables, but these ate rough prices, say someone said give me a rough price over the phone without seeing it.

1)Under kitchen cupboard LED lights power is already in 2 areas under the cupboard and are already wired to switch. So fairly easy.
Price £50 if not supplying lights

2)Adding 2 additional lights (baton holders) to existing circuit in attic. so basically come off existing light to make roof void more brighter.
Price: £80

3)Adding garden socket including running the cabling about 7 metres
Price £175

4)replacing existing outside lights with 2 motion sensor light fittings as well as putting in dummie dimmer switch module.
Price £60

5)Tiding up supply cable to boiler.
Price £40

6) investigating what is causing low voltage downlights to blow and slightly burn cables at termination.
Price £35

Sorry, if this was all for one customer on ame job, I'd probably do it for £325 - £350

I charge £180 per day or £25 per hour! It could be done in a day, but would ccertainly charge more than a days rate. Oh and I also stick 20% on parts.

I'm not very good at pricing things, generally I underprice, I don't loose out but think, damn should have been another £100. That garge I did last, it was a blooming good job, everything in conduit, 3 fluorescents, 5 double sockets, 3 light switches inc 2 way, 2 spurs. Charged him £255 inc parts, lol, bit too cheap, he probably wouldn't have wanted it if I said £350, so at least I made something rather than nothing.

Uksparks your a good guy thank you very much for your input. I understand there can be many variables which i have taken into account ive seen my routes and know exactly how i will carry out the work and it is as straight forward as it sounds. I came to the £300ish mark myself but didnt want to overcharge and under price myself

Many thanks

Lol I dont know much but i think he got a good deal :)

He did, and half way through I was thinking to myself, he seems like the type that might pay me more as some do, but he didn't... Doh!

I made £120 out of it, it's better than nothing I guess.

Admittedly I started the job one evening before Christmas, I said let me know as soon as I can pop back to do more, didn't hear from him over Christmas, it turns out he had a stroke Christmas eve, had a 6" cut down his kneck and a clot removed, he seemed ok, nice guy too, only about 50. He asked me to look at downlighters for his garage outside then when I saw him, I've text him a couple of times Nd emailed but not heard anything, I hope nothing else bad had happened!

Just to add, it took me three evening s of about 2 hours each to do the job, it was a lot more diddly and involved than planned.

Some good feedback here but point 6,"investigate fault..." is an open issue if you want to guarantee all tasks completed. I have known "investigation" to lead onto some astounding further tasks......and it may be that last, trickiest task that is wanted fixing, before payment comes for all the easier jobs...
