Putting tails into a 400a ct chamber installed by EDF one of the blokes I'm working with decides to cross thread this. Because of the nature of the item I don't want to start playing around with it he's on about rethreading but I'm not keen on this idea. So need to get a replacement but when I call EDF and try to explain they act like I'm speaking a different language.

It is exactly the same as these that I have used in many occasions but just the top bit and one bolt as the other part of it is fixed in the chamber. Can't see any make on the chamber.

just re-tap it and hope that the male thread is ok.

I'll get a photo tomorrow left my work phone in the office.

Wanted to get a replacement really I don't really like the thought of retapping it just incase.

It is a shear bolt but I need the nut part with the channels in it as well. I have one of the shear bolts that would fit it in my bits box.

How on earth did it get crossthreaded, it must be a 16mm thread by the looks of it. If it's all aluminium construction it's doubtful you'll be able to salvage the thread even with a dressing tool so I'd get the name of the panel and contact the manufacturers or agents for a new part.

He was trying to be a hero and get a 185mm tail in on his own. We done the other three together one holding the weight of the cable and one doing the connection and it all worked fine. I nip off to have a look at something with the site agent come back to him frantically trying to get it back out.

It's going to be one of those things that probably costs a couple of quid to buy but it will take an entire morning in the office to track one down, pay for it and arrange collection or delivery.

and anothe full day to fill out a method statement, risk assessment, equal opportunities document, and a disclaimer that no animals were mistreated during the repair.

Oh yes so far at least half a day has been wasted.

Yep makes sense risk assessment method statement then permit to work being issued every day by an engineer with no electrical knowledge signing to say the system is safe to work he didn't even know what half the boxes on it meant.

No animals harmed during the repair so where does the bacon in my roll come from?

Yeah I think that's the way I'm going to have to go cut one of them in half and just use the single bolt part at least then it know the thread is not damaged from the being threaded etc.
