So was round giving a quote to install soffit lights on a house today no problem some nice IP rated downlights will do I thought, went round to see the job and to give a price and noticed the soffit is in fact made of concreteo_O anyone got any ideas of a fitting to use that won’t look daft? Saw some surface mounted downlights but can’t seem to find any decent IP rated ones that don’t cost a fortune maybe something like these?
Astro KOS Surface Mounted Downlight IP65 in Black - https://cometlighting.co.uk/by-room/living-room/wall-lights/astro-kos-surface-mounted-downlight-ip65-in-black.html
But I was really hoping for something that had a lower profile And price point ;)

Sure it isn't asbestos.
I think it’s most likely concrete it projects from the house and is bedded into the brickwork with mortar it looks like a couple of long paving slabs have been attached to the house but you’ve got me thinking now might need a quick run up a ladder to double check

Get it checked out first.
So in the meantime assuming it’s concrete and not asbestos (which I will get checked, cause f**k that with the risks and fines involved) any ideas?

So if its concrete, how exactly do you plan to fit the lights?
Screws and rawlplugs? That’s why I’m after surface mounted downlights...

I guarantee it is asbestos containing material.

Another one here who thinks it's probably asbestos.

Be interested to know though. I've never heard of concrete soffits

Sounds like Asbestos cement board to me may only contain 5% asbestos but still 5% too much.

lol, I was thinking of some body cutting concrete like the Hatton gardens job. ho well.

I have seen AIB used as a soffit board it’s definitely not that but to be honest it could be an ACM from the ground it certainly looks like concrete because it looks like a concrete paving slab (2 inches thick)there are lots of houses round my way with a very similar looking slab type thing

So this is the house in question seems like concrete to me, mind I’m getting it checked anyway just to be sure but have a look...

Is it a prefab?
