home network help!

I'm rewiring the house and want to include some cables for a home network - Internet, tv/sky/hd etc. If I was to run some cat 6 up to the loft along with some wf100 shotgun coax, how many of each should I ideally be looking at pulling in to each room to cover myself? I'm gonna use 25mm conduits in the walls bushed into 45mm back boxes. Should I assume that I'll get 2 shotguns or 4 cat 6 to a 2 gang box? Thanks!

I think you have got it futureproofed by using conduits as it gives you the opportunity to upgrade as technology evolves. I would suggest a minimum of a couple of 25mm conduits to a 2 gang box

Don't forget to put in conduits or trunking to your incoming points like BT it's all very well having all the rooms wired to the loft then find you have not got the conduit for incoming connections routed to the loft

With my limited knowledge, I would recommend extra deep boxes (48mm) to accommodate grid type connections.

My BT, sky and an old coax which i assume comes from the aerial, all come in behind the TV in the lounge. Will I need more than the two 2g boxes and 4 conduits that I was planing on putting in to get the services into the loft and leave enough space for everything else? I don't really know how to wire all this up yet so any pointers very welcome!

TV distributer box in loft.....possibly other stuff bit more accessible like a cupboard.. I'm no expert, but re TV. From aerial to distribution box (usually called amplifier in loft),then down to lounge Sky / Bt boxTV box area then back up to distribution box (loft) then from there to each and every TV point separately inc the lounge. So, in lounge you will end up with 3 x TV coax cables. Are you mounting the lounge TV onto the wall?

I don't plan on wall mounting the tv. It is my own house. I want try and get the cables in now, even if I don't utilise them all straight away!

In each room where I may want a TV or computer I have:

2 x CT100
1 x CAT 5
1 x BT point

As yet I've not connected the CAT 5

All in 1 x 2G 47mm back box, using grid switches to make up the front. Don't try this with 25mm or 35mm boxes!

In the loft I have an 8 way multiple input/output splitter amp, with a 2G socket adjacent to it.

We currently only use Freeview but have an FM/DAB aerial on the roof too.

Hopefully the way i suggested, means that you can watch all programmes via Sky / BT box throughout the house, if more than 1 TV point

Why don't you just pull a monster cable? It has your fiber optics, a few RG-6, and a few CAT 5's

I would not bother with bt cables, run Cat5 or 6 then fit RJ45 sockets at the outlets, run the ends in the loft to a patch panel and patch them as phone or cat 5/6 as required.

You can use cat5/6 as phones not the other way around, use a lau adaptor to plug the phones into the rj45 sockets
