still learning.

Hi I was wondering if the sockets/lights in say a kitchen are on the same circuit as the rest of the downstairs sockets/lights does it still come under a special location (need to be able to self certify or get the council in) or would it be minor works as it is the same circuit as the living room which would be minor works?

A kitchen isn't considered a special location.

It wouldn't be the type of circuit that would define if it is a minor works. It would be the work carried out.

ok for example replacing a single socket for a double one. would this be minor works? in a kitchen

633.1/2 The person carrying out or responsible for the work should issue a minor works cert only when a circuit is extended or altered. This applies to each circuit.

Although Widdler is correct in that a kitchen is not a Special Location it is still singled out as requiring Notifying for any additions to circuits or new circuits under Part P so beware!

That would be because of kitchen fitters

so changing the socket from a single to a tripple wouldn't be an addition but changing the fan to light would because I will need to extend the cable by means of crimps and heatshrink tubing

Are you trying to determine if the work is notifiable? if it's in a special location? or what type of certificate to use?

I'm confused?

sorry let me start again
ive been asked to change a single socket to a tripple socket and to take a fan out (spured from a socket via a switched fcu) extend the cable and put a light on it, they are both in the kitchen. Is this work notifiable?

The cabling and light point work is notifiable and will need a minor works certificate.
