Hello,

I have carried out electrical wiring in a kitchen. I have never priced a job before and don't want to overprice or shortchange myself any help would be much appreciated.

I fitted:
16 down lights
2 double socket moves
Moved all isolator off walls and relocated to central location (10 isolators)
Carried out all second fix and 3rd fix on kitchen
Replaced all faces with brushed chrome
Wired and fitted cabinet lights
Wired fan
Wired 2 ovens and hob

Took me 30 hours total and 3 trips 30 mile round trip each time.

IMO minimum of £750 on labour, £40 on juice, plus materials and then add mark up of between 10%-20%. 10% being competitive and 20% being expensive.

Out of interest why didn't you submit a price before you started?

And where are you? Location matters

I had never done the job before and didn't know exactly what they wanted and was going by there word what I was going to have to do. So run in to some issues and some things they said would be done were not done so more work for me.

Plus first kitchen I had done for this builder he has been pretty straight with me and don't want to rip anybody off or to be out of pocket.

Rcd protection?

Rcd already fitted pretty modern house so had everything apart from an mcb fitted and plumber had earth removed while doing the plumbing I just made sure it was reattached before kitchen went in.

Yea and I done first fix also.

So you did all the 1st fix too?

What about any board upgrades and earthing or bonding?

Rcd protection?

Not sure I'd call a house with a fuse holder modern!

Lots of questions murdoch without a constructive reply for the OP. Not sure if thats how you achieved your 'trusted advisor' status .

Hi peter i would a competitive price for me would be around £1300-£1600 on the information provided. Hope this helps

I'd be looking at £150.00 - £180.00 per day (8hrs) plus Vat labour, and materials at cost plus 10%.

It's very simple to learn, ask a question with as much information as possible, and when other posters ask questions the OP needs to answer them.

This one didn't exactly help himself.

It's not difficult.....

One issue with kitchens, specifically ones that have been refitted since the property has been built, and more specifically ones where the electrics have been modified by kitchen companies, is the nightmare of bodges you find once the units have been removed and tiles lift off the walls.
Spurs off spurs off spurs, live back boxes behind tiles sometimes even just plastered over etc etc. Important those scenarios are covered in your quotation. Sometimes, looking at the state of the existing kitchen, and taking a second guess, I'll only do some of the work on day rate (reasonable hourly rate, and itemised hrs). Otherwise you'll end up putting right what's been bodged before, at your own expense.

I don't really think that's the case. This is an open forum and any jo(e) public can read it. Pricing is sensitive, regional etc. Ask in The Arms and I'm sure people will help. Personally - for me, 10% mark up is way to low, but that's just my situation.

I don't think that pricing should be a 'sensitive' issue. The more the general public knows about how we arrive at a price, the more they might understand why it's worth paying a decent price instead of just giving the job to the lowest bidder. All the factors that contribute towards a 'good' job, e.g. design, planning, purchasing, scheduling, installation, testing, certification, notification and warranty repair/replacement.
