Was sitting at the traffic lights this morning when a young gun pulled up beside me he was smoking a smoke talking on his phone and drinking a can of coke then had to get beeped when the lights changed.

So is it me or am I seeing a lot more of this ie people chatting away on the phone with no sense of what is going on around.I wish the police up here would have a crackdown just to get this behaviour in check I know it goes on but there is a worrying trend here as as see this more often.

If you're driving past someone who's on their mobile, just blast your horn when you're alongside and watch them jump out of their skin and drop it...

Yea did that when i was behind a woman who was on the phone and checking her hair in the mirror and O boy did she jump.

The thing is I am noticing this more in the rush hour when the car is an extension to the office dont get me wrong I am not being grumpy about it as I am concerned about the safety aspect either that I am noticing it more

Was he wearing a sealt belt, did he have MOT, tax and insurance - probably not.

Makes you wonder what the Police actually do!

It's a bit like speeding, people don't perceive it as a crime.
You do here of people getting busted for mobile use, 3 points etc. I think.
The Law can't be everywhere, I'm not saying they should be either!

But where are they, never see them round my way these days (well in fact for many years!)

So its easier to catch someone on a speed camera and then let their wife take the blame because they cannot afford the ban or even persue me via a parking fine even although they got that wrong but it seems to me that they know it goes on but will do nothing about it yet at christmas time they have a crackdown on drink driving yet wave past someone who has a latte and a smoke and is on the phone ?

When I'm on the bike and get someone cut across my bows on a roundabout who is trying to turn the wheel, change gear, and carry on the phone conversation I find it irksome. However the advantage to being on the bike is that rapping on the drivers window with kevlar knuckled gloves oce off the roundabout does liven them up a bit. :)

Get a Road Hawk front and rear, when the prat tail gates you while on his mobile at 70mph just hand the video to the police its enough to get them charged and they wont even remember what car they were behind, they are logged in realtime and calculate speed etc using sat' navigation so good enough to bring charges and its same system some cop cars have themselves.....
The satifaction is priceless knowing the prat who is driving so close could kill you if you have to anchor on.

The wife hasn't got home yet, my 8 year old daughter was ringing her up to find out where she was, a few minutes away apparently, told her to hang up because she's driving.
Wifie gets home, I had the phone squeezed between my shoulder and ear, that's OK? says she.

Priceless! I despair sometimes.

If I had the spare cash I would get one, I could get around 6 drivers on average whilst driving off the island that are on the phone texting, or the latest favourite, hold it about 8 inches away in front on loudspeaker!!

Now that looks like a usefull bit of kit. I may have to invest in one of those soon and become friends with the local traffic unit.

Most of the ones I see doing this are driving vans with electricians logos plastered all over them.

If you look closer you'll see that there isn't a phone there. They're just screaming with rage or crying with dispair into the steering wheel. Equally as dangerous to other road users, but I just thought I'd mention it in the interest of accuracy.

I find if I criticize the police I'm accused of disliking them because I must be a criminal.
I think there should be a return to 'common sense' policing where a policeman can give someone a telling-off for messing about or doing something silly, without having to relate everything to the law. Like that rozzer on YouTube who stopped a cyclist for running a red light but was at a loss to correlate it with the correct law and therefore powerless to do much, and the cyclist was well aware of this. Instead of trying to be all 'legal' and saying 'you must not ride through a red light because it's in contravention of the road traffic act article X section X' I reckon he should have been able to say 'you must not ride through a red light because it's dangerous'.
It would be nice to see them stopping motorists who are driving 'badly' and just having a word, without it necessarily having to be for speeding or not wearing a seatbelt.
