I called NICEIC to find out if I could use their warranty with my own designed forms.

Their response was, No, I have to purchase their printed forms and the warranty goes with them and not the actual contractor whose work is possibly under scrutiny. They did ask why I wasn't using their forms. 'cos I didn't have to according to the NICEIC technical helpline. Also I used an Excel spreadsheet, to assist my learning process, which makes several sanity checks highlighting unacceptable values etc. so I continued to use this as it confirms acceptability.

Can anyone allucidate? After all, I'm doing the work not the forms. Is this a scam within a scam?

Your thoughts please...

wow they really are trying to squeeze all the pennies out of people aren't they??? i don't see why there would be an issue as you are registered with them, and they stated once a member your work is covered by there warranty. the 'work done' is whats covered, not the paperwork

Ask them where a outs in the part p document that they have to adhere to in regards to warranty on Part P work does it state this?

There is a member who claims to be the NICEIC Engineer - lets hope he reads this.

This warranty scam is unravelling into a right farce.

I simply don't mention it to clients, else they think they are paying for something they don't want and as for the "mandatory" insurance - isn't this not just another mis selling example??

Agreed and thanks to all contributors.

Ask them to send it to you in writing as you wish to take it to trading standards for a discussion.

I'd like to see them try to argue that statement out in a court of law!!

The basic truth is, that they don't want to, be or take responsibility for anything or anyone. They just want to see the money continually rolling into the coffers. It would be interesting to know just how many (if any) warranty claims they have actually fulfilled to everyones satisfaction over the years, especially when it comes to the so-called under qualified, under experienced Domestic Installers that swell they're registration books??
