started year 2 last night, about 90% of students from last year turned up but we were told last year that we would be the last on the 2330, but there was loads of first years last night, have they delayed the scrapping of the 2330?

Contacted C&G about this to clarify, heres there line on it...

Dear Paul

Thank you for contacting City & Guilds Customer Relations.

Here is the latest information / news of 2330 recognition into 2357:

Recognition of the 2330 in the 2357 QCF qualification
Following discussions with SummitSkills, and a mapping exercise carried out comparing 2330 content to the new QCF 2357 units, we are happy to confirm that there will be recognition of achievement for candidates of 2330 at both levels 2 and 3 within the new 2357 qualification.

The exact details of the coverage are still to be released, but City & Guilds want to reassure centres that candidates starting now on either level 2 or 3 2330 will have their achievement recognised in the 2357 in some way. Candidates who have achieved 2330 at both levels would have more learning outcomes/achievement to carry forward to the new qualification than candidates that have achieved the qualification just at level 2.

More details will be released to centres upon confirmation of the recognition process.
Registrations on the level 3 2330 award will not be possible beyond 01.04.2011 so you will be unable to start the level 3 2330 although you should be able to start the 2357 at the appropriate level once you have completed 2330 at level 2.

Should you require any further assistance please don't hesitate to contact the Customer Relations team on 0844 543 0033.

Make of it what you will...

I'm starting the level 2 this evening at college.
I dont know as of yet where we go at the end of the course but C&G seem to point to the NVQ in a fair few posts so I assume that a lot of folks will head in that direction.

sounds ok, but to start the 2357 you need to be employed, which currently im not, starting to think its not worth doing the level 2

anybody who has been assured they can do level 3, especially if doing level 2 on a part time basis, has been given the wrong advice, i cant say why i know, but i know

anyone taking the 2330 level 2 will be mapped over onto the 2357. this has been confirmed by c&g and summit skills also the 2356 nvq work place qual will also be mapped over. this was part of the problem why the qualification was delayed they needed a path for exsisting students. so i wouldnt worry!!!

Colleges and the education system would not implement a new course structure halfway through a course. Students studying the 2330 Level 2 this year will continue onto the Level 3 2330 next year.

I also started the NVQ Level 2 2330 at my local college this September. I was told by my lecturers that we have nothing to worry about.

started my 2330 in september 2 nights p/wk at college. just been told we have to finish the course by end of march (everything passed) inorder for us to get registered onto the level 3 in april. so they have cut our 2330 course down by 2 months anyone else in the same boat? If we pass the 2330 we then start level 3 in april rather than september.

I am currently stuying L3 and have been told that this is the last year they are doing it my college. another work coleage currently studying L2 has been told that next year they will be doing the new qualification, it is a direct replacement as far as they are concered, and he will be qualified ( as with the L3 2330) when he succesfully completes it next year

andyxeno and all the others,
we had a letter on friday from the college requires all those wishing to take level 3 to enrol by feb 16 2011, also there is no course
subsidy so the course will cost about £1300 next year.

Thanks for that msg Alanda, looks like i need to get a definitive answer regarding my future progression towards being a sparky from my college.I expect(hope) the new qualification i heard being introduced will take in to account people finishing part of the course (in my case it'll be the level 2) but i'm having a difficult time tbh getting a EXACT answer regarding further quals.Tutors are a little bit vague and too much info on the net(maybe i'm not reading it right!!) with conflicting answers. As far as i was aware i had to take the 2330 lvl 2&3 then the 2357 then Am2 but now not sure. Anyhoot
Cheers for the info
