Hi guys just wondering if someone can help me out here. I've been asked to install a metal hand dryer in a toilet block but the fused connection unit for it will fall within touching distance of the sinks.I've had a look at the regs but I'm still a bit unsure. Will the FCU need to go above the ceiling or will it be ok to go beside the hand dryer as long as the circuit is protected by an RCBO.Thanks

Hand basins don't usually warrant classification as a special zone so common sense would be the order of the day.

Just think about instantaneous water heaters, maybe..

best thing for a toilet block is a plumber. about all they're fit for.

Fitted bloody hundreds of handriers in toilet blocks in schools , offices , pubs clubs. If I was installing new circuit would as others have said use common sense and fit fcu a reasonable distance from basins but have seen them fitted above and directly next to basins.

Mount the FCU just below the ceiling, it stops it being turned of by people who nothing better to do.

As others have already said, toilets without shower/bath is not a special location.

The equipment installed is to be suitable for the environment, general rules apply, on a side note not actually a reg in BS7671 but in the electricians guide to the building regs (I think) suggests minimum 300mm away from the edge of the sink.

What makes you think there would be a reg for the spur to be mounted where you suggested?

I don't think a waste disposal or a macerated will be any good for drying your hands.
