Just thought i'd post this in case anybody else comes across the same problem.
Complaint as above, Broadband intermittently dropping out & No ring on incoming Phones, Dial out OK but slight crackling noise in Earpiece. System had 1 Master & 2 Extensions With D-Link Router in 1 & Phone in the other both via ADSL filters.
Ditched everything at the Drop box, & the line tested good on Meter & Butt phone tests, re-connect & ditch Extensions from master & everything checked OK. Anyway long story short, when the D-Link cable was re-connected the problem re-appeared, checked the cable & found a small amount of Verdigree between the pins. A Meter check showed a 10K leak between the pins, Cutting the wire back 15mm & crimping on a new plug cured the problem & restored normal service.
