G83 or G59 for 4 kW install?

Hi,

Just contacted SP energy networks re. a 4kWp installation to see what my options are and was told definitely only G59. However, I see from other threads that there seems to be some leeway when installing slightly over 3.68 if there are no issues with the local infrastructure - the install is on a newly built estate.

I have seen several people referring to G83 stage 2 applications in these situations, but all the info I can find states these are for multiple installs in close proximity - am I missing something here or is it a way of avoiding G59? In which case should I just send in a stage 2 app and see what happens or should I talk to them first?

I appreciate I could probably fit a 16A limited inverter and the customer would benefit from greater output when not hitting the maximum output - can anyone confirm that SP networks are OK with this approach?

By the way has anyone else had problems with the forum search facility - a search for G83 produces no results!

The G83/1-1 Stage 2 stuff for >16A is on the Central Networks site which is still up and running and operational using old email addresses since they were taken over by WPD. Whether they still allow it I am not sure. But calling your local DNO as you have is probably the best way of finding what to do.

I could not get search to work yesterday.

Some DNOs allow G83 Stage 2 for up to 17kW. You have to ask for permission first and if they say no - then it is G59.

But no consistency across DNOs AFAIK.

They do indeed. Got a 4000TL going in next week after putting a stage 2 application in a couple of weeks ago. Got a response from WPD within a week saying fine to proceed as long as upper frequency limit is increased to 51.5Hz
